About Us2
It took 30 years to find New Bern Hometown Storage! Well that's not really fair: I didn't know I was looking for it.
A long time ago in a land far far away...
When I was in my twenties, I bought my first rental property in Pittsburgh...and had no idea what I was doing! But I worked hard, learned how to make repairs, and made it a place I could be proud of. Then the dreary western Pennsylvania winters got to me, so I headed west, settled in Montana and started a family. A few years later I sold the PA property and invested my heart and soul in Montana. I have since moved back east, but my heart is still in the Rockies!
During covid it got increasingly difficult to manage a property long distance, so I looked for something closer to home. The mini storage property at 701 Howell Road was pretty run down. But I saw the diamond in the rough. And the location was good, in James City between downtown New Bern and the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (EWN). After reluctantly selling the Montana property, I purchased what has become New Bern Hometown Storage. Then the real work began.
Proof you can teach an old dog new tricks
Once again I had no idea what I was doing! But this time I had 20+ years of experience running our family owned construction business and even more years (let's not calculate those) of customer service expertise. So I got busy replacing roofs and walls and fencing and cameras and the gate. I cleaned up and cleaned out. Tenants who have been with me since that time say they are amazed at the transformation. If you are one of those dozen tenants, thank you! I truly appreciate you.
And, with advances in technology, NBHS was transformed into a contactless facility. That was a big deal because contact-less was all new during covid. Everybody was winging it. But contactless rentals makes it easy for tenants to rent contents storage because everything is done by phone, email or online. There you go: Proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks 😎
To be the best, learn from the best
The next step was to learn this new industry. So I affiliated with U-Haul and rode in the hip pocket of many experts to learn their self storage tips and tricks and how to give customers what they want. I studied the big guys like CubeSmart, Public Storage and Extra Space then mimicked much of what they do. I met with small owners in different markets who graciously shared their best practices to help elevate my business. There was nothing in it for them, but they did it anyway. I feel so blessed to be part of such a generous group of business owners as Self Storage Association members. They are amazing people.
When you call, you get... me
Yes, we have big guy tech on our side. That makes it simple to reserve contents storage online and access your account when it's convenient for you. But when you need help, we are here. A real human on the other end of the line. When you call this owner-operated, woman-owned business you have an advantage: You get the owner, the one who cares and the one who makes decisions. The buck stops here.
My goal was and is to provide safe, easy self storage for your home, business, boat or RV at a facility that I am proud to call my own. I have pretty high standards, but we are almost there. And even when I am 100% proud of it, I will keep finding ways to improve it and make it easier and better for each and every tenant. That is my promise to you.
Thank you for supporting small business! If I can be of service to you, please don't hesitate to call 252-822-7010 or email.
