How do I get my gate code?
Your personal gate code will be emailed on move the in date you selected when you reserved the storage unit or outdoor parking space. If you have not completed the rental agreement and paid for your unit, be sure to do this first. Gate codes will be issued only after the signed rental agreement and payment have been received.
If you have completed the rental agreement and payment, and still don’t see the gate code email, check your spam folder. Be sure to add Amy@NewBernHometownStorage to your contacts and safe sender domain list in your email account. That way, future emails will go to your inbox.
Are all the gate codes the same?
Each gate access code is unique. Do not share your gate code with anyone.
Gate access is monitored and you are responsible for anyone who uses your code to access the property.
If your code is ever lost or stolen, simply call and we can disable the old one and give you a new code.
How do I open the gate?
Your gate access code will be emailed to you on your move in date. Note: Be sure to complete the rental agreement and payment so your gate code can be issued.
Pull up to the gate and you’ll see a blak SpiderDoor keypad on a post. Simply enter your 5 or 6 digit access code, then the pound sign to signal the gate that your code is complete. Example: 1 2 3 4 5 6 # The gate will beep, open automatically, then close with in 30 seconds.
Gate hours are 6am to 10pm. When you leave, pull toward the gate and the sensor will open the gate for you.
Be smart: Do not share your gate code with anyone. Gate access is monitored and you are responsible for anyone who uses your code to access the property.
Be safe: Look to make sure the gate is clear of people and other cars before entering your code. Do not attempt to push, pull or impede the opening or closing of the gate.
I forgot my gate code. Now what?
No worries! Simply refer to the move in day email to find your gate code. If you cannot find the move day email, please call 252.822.7010 during business hours or email us and we will find it for you.
My gate code is not working. Now what?
First, double check that you are entering the correct 5 or 6 digit access code, then the pound sign. Example: 1 2 3 4 5 6 #
Forgot your gate code? Refer to the move in day email to view your gate code.
Gate access is automatically disabled if rent is not paid. To check, simply log in to your account to verify that payment was processed or update your method of payment if needed.
If your account is current and your code is still not working, please call 252.822.7010 or email us and we will figure it out with you.
What are the gate hours?
Gate hours are 6am to 10pm daily. When you leave, pull toward the gate & the sensor will open the gate for you.
How do I find my storage unit or parking space?
The location of your unit will be assigned after the rental agreement is completed and payment is received. Your storage unit or parking space number will be emailed with your personal gate access code on your move in date.
How do I open the door to my storage unit?
Your unit is tagged and ready for you. Simply twist off the wire tag to remove it.
To open the door, slide the latch all the way to the left then raise the door using the handles. NOTE: If the latch feels stuck or stopped, do not force it: push the door down or lift up slightly, then slide the latch. Please call 252.822.7010 or email us immediately if you have any trouble with a door or latch.
When finished, close the door and slide the latch all the way to the right, then secure with the lock. Again, if the latch feels stuck or stopped, do not force it: push the door down or lift up slightly, then slide the latch and notify us. All units must be secured with a lock.
Remember to bring a lock with you. If you need a lock, please email your request to Amy@NewBernHometownStorage For only $15 we can provide you a brand new cylinder lock with 2 keys and have it waiting in your unit.
How should I park in an outdoor parking space?
All outdoor parking spaces are perpendicular to the fence. Space numbers are mounted on the fence.
Park only in your designated space.
Back into your space and center your vehicle on the space # sign.
Please leave 6 feet between your vehicle and the fence so the lawn crew has enough room to mow.
Lock your vehicle before leaving. If you are parking a trailer, please secure it with a hitch lock.
Do you have storage auctions?
Yes, we have regular auctions for the contents of unpaid storage units. If you would like to be added to our email list for auction notifications, please email us.
What items are prohibited in self storage?
Please review and abide the storage rules in the rental agreement. As a reminder, nothing liquid, perishable, flammable or explosive is permitted on the property.

How do I move out or end my storage contract?
